Fall Squirrel - TCH #121

 Hello!

Fall is in full swing, and the fall foliage is just gorgeous here in the midwest.  My husband mentioned to me last week that some parts of Wisconsin already had a dusting of snow! 😳.

It was such an honor guest designing this week!  For this week’s challenge,  The Color Hues this week are the perfect fall colors of orange and brown.  Please join us, and play along here:  (The Color Hues - #121)

For this challenge, I chose this adorable squirrel from Leisa Zhardga stamps, simply titled : Squirrel With a Book Sitting on the Rocking Chair.   (Leisa Zgharda Stamps)

To begin this card, I started with a side folding kraft cardstock base, measuring 4 1/4 in. x 5 1/4 inches (Recollections)

Using. stamp platform, I stamped the squirrel in Ranger Archival ink in Sepia.  This ink provided a neutral color that would not bleed with water.

Next, I used an aqua pen and Pumpkin Pie ink (SU) and brushed a light wash of color over the body, and allowed it to dry.  I moved onto the rocking chair, loosely watercoloring it in Early Espresso (SU).

Now for the fun part!  I started building up color using Prisma Color Pencils in Dark Brown, Dark Umber, Mineral Orange and Black.  The eyes, paws, muzzle and belly were white and beige.

Assembly:

Using Paper Trey Ink’s Psalm Reflections cutting die, I cut a frame in Pumpkin Pie cardstock (SU). The edges were colored with the Mineral Orange pencil, and dot pattern was enhanced using a brown marker.

The squirrel was cut from Paper Trey Ink’s Love to Layer Soft Ridges Cutting Die, and mounted onto the orange mat.

A few die cut leaves and twig left overs were tucked around the frame to add extra texture and dimension.  Stampin Up - dies from Christmas Banners and Paper Smooches - Leaves dies.

Lastly, keeping the sentiment small, I chose “For You” from the Stampin Up - Blue Berry Bunches in Early Espresso Ink, and cut with Stampin Up’s Today’s tiles dies.

Have a great week!  Valerie Kaye

  1. Valerie, your little squirrel is delightful and so beautifully coloured; a wonderful image for a fall card (plus he's reading a book, which adds to the 'awww' factor). So thrilled to have you guest designing for our Orange and Brown challenge; you've aced the combination!

Easter Fun Fold

Hello!  I saw a great technique today, that is a Z - fold card with a cross design. The card technique is from Lynn Dunn.  She has both a video and a very helpful download with all the measurements.  Thanks Lynn!  This is a great card for many occasions!  What I like about this design is that the cross is very prominent by the Z-Fold. You can find Lynn’s link:  (Here)   One of the most helpful tools for this project is a simple engineering ruler.  I watched a video from Jennifer McGuire a while back, and it’s a tool she uses often.   I ordered it, and it makes life so much easier.  This ruler is easy to read with all of the markings.  It has both metric and standard markings. (Amazon Link) I looked through my papers and made this card with Stampin Up’s Thoughtful Journey DSP.   The embossed cross pattern is from an Anna Griffin - Border embossing folder.  The pattern is called Blooming Damask.   The sentiment is from ...

Positively Peanuts!

Hello!  The current challenge for the Double D Blog is Love and friendship.   To join in on the challenge: click the link  (HERE) I couldn’t think of a better friendship than Snoopy and Woodstock’s!  I was gifted the Creative Stamping Magazine, issue 156 from my Sister In Law!  I had kind of given up on these stamps, and she happened to see the magazine sitting on the shelf in the bookstore, and was nice to gift me the magazine.   To create this shaker card, I used a frame cutting die from the Past Unity Stamps Whit Kit (No Place Like Home).  I stacked  2 - panels for the top, and 4 - panels for the bottom, using Unity’s Basic Black cards stock. The bottom frame was glued to a slightly larger frame cutting die from Coastal Cabana card stock (SU). The hearts were added from a mini paper punch, with a few extra small beads.   Snoopy and Woodstock were stamped with Versa fine onyx black ink, colored and fussy cut.  I stamped the senti...

Holly Jolly Christmas - AHS#686

Hello!  Today’s card is inspired from Atlantic Hearts Sketch #686 this week, with the sentiment taking center stage in the card front.  To play along, click the link  (HERE) I used this fun die from - A Pocket Full of Sunshine and cut the letters from Poppy Parade card stock  (SU). I used the negative piece of card-stock as a template for alignment and spacing. The back ground was made from a snow cover plate die from Gina Marie Designs (wholesalecrafting supplies.com). I cut a second background with silver cardstock, and used the snow pieces to inlay against the white.  I have lots of dots and letters in my table at the moment…😆 I tried to find a stamp that could be placed on or around the prominent sentiment, and this snowman from SSS - called Wrapped in scarves was the perfect fit. He was colored with markers and embellished with a Wink of Stella pen. I added an action wobbler for movement and dimension.  Thanks for stopping by! - Valerie Kaye
