Refuge and Joy - BYSHC # 53

 Greetings!

I'm enjoying the quiet of New Year's Day.  My husband is busy making jam in the kitchen, so I decided to stay in seclusion into the craft room for awhile.  What better way to spend on a quiet holiday afternoon!

This month's challenge Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers is a card layout using a corner.  It's a great design and I love how it frames in the center.  This sketch reminds me of vintage photo corner covers.

I actually made two cards.  One Christmas design and the other is more of a inspirational or masculine card.

Both cards are top folding cards measuring measuring 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

This features Unity's Refuge stamp.  This is such a gorgeous stamp that could be used for any type of masculine, courage, spiritual, get well, or sympathy themed card.   I had black and white DSP from Stampin Up with feathers on it, and I thought this would be a great compliment to Unity's stamp.

I then found some black cardstock and used a ruler to align where I wanted to make my line, and added a pencil line.  I used this pencil mark to line my cutter to.  Stacking both pieces of cardstock.  I was able to cut once and have two identical matching pieces.  I used the 3 1/2 x 5 center mat, and added a 1/4 inch larger frame behind it.

To assemble: I first added the first corner in the bottom left of the card, and put the center image over it.  Next, I added the second corner overlapping the top right corner.  I used a hexagon nesting set to cut the center image and offset the gold foil frame behind it.  A few gold paint spatters were added to finish off the card.

Using the same sketch, I also made a Christmas card.  This features Unity Stamp's Poinsettia Comfort.  I used a simple frame die to frame the poinsettia image.  The poinsettia was stamped in Ranger archival ink, and then water colored with a combination of ink pads and distress inks in pinks.  The leaves, I used markers and scribbled on my glass tabletop, and picked up the ink with an aqua-pen.  Gold acrylic paint was splattered across the front.
