Greetings!
I've had SO much fun in the craft room today! Paper was flying, glitter was everywhere. It looks like either a party or a crime scene happened. 😂 Just kidding, but at the end of the Christmas cardmaking season, there are a LOT of scraps needing some love. Simple card sketches are a great way of using scraps and left over elements that can be put to use into new cards!
Facebook's Tawnieowlpaperie group has a Top Sketch Challenge to play with. There are are many, many great choices. My goal is to see how many cards I can make up with these sketches. I was able to make a batch of six simple cards that can be changed up with different colored scraps and die shapes.
Here's my take: Card 1 "Be Joyful"
Assembly: I used a simple white card base and dry embossed with a texture folder to give a look like a stretched canvas. The tree was cut from striped paper and anchored onto the center strip. The Joyful sentiment was added to the banner, and punched using a banner punch.
First card: "Let's be Joyful" (Inspired from Sketch 17)
Stamp: Concord and 9th
Die: Unity
Paper: Accent 120# cardstock, Stampin Up Basic Black, Recollections gold foil, Stampin Up designer series paper
Accesories: Stampin Up Banner punch, Stampin Up textured embossing folder
Card 2
Card 2: Card Layout Sketch #2
Dies: Postage Stamp nesting dies, Unity's Ornamental Pine die, Star -Concord and 9th
Sentiment: Concord and 9th
Paper: Accent 120# cardstock (white), Recollections Red foil cardstock, Stampin up - plaid designer series paper, embellishments (thank-you gift from Unity!)
Details: This is top folding card measuring 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" inches. I used a postage style stamp and taped the tree die cut inside. The joyful sentiment was stamped in Versafine - onyx black, cut and attached onto the corner of postage stamp. Three red embellishments were added to the tree and red foil star was added to the top.
Card 3: Using Sketch 27
Card Supplies:
Cardstock: Accent 120# white cardstock, Recollections- gold foil cardstock
Dies: Unity - Ornamental Pines
Embossing folder: Taylored Expressions -Snowfall
Ink: Versafine- Onyx Black
Accessories: Silver star sequins
Assembly:
I began with taking a card base and cutting a few strips, and embossing them in a snow embossing folder. I think next time I try this design out, I'm going to try negative die cutting with a green background and white overlay. I initally tried layering 3 trees, but I didn't have any trees smaller, so I used two and staggered the sentiment underneath. A simple gold foil strip anchors Happy Holidays. Silver star sequins, are added to the trees for extra embellishment.
Card 4: Inspired from Sketch #8
Card Supplies:
Paper: Accent 120# white cardstock, Stampin Up - designer series paper
Dies: Unity -Ornamental Pines Tree die from, circle nesting circles
Stamp: (Sentiments) Concord and 9th
Accessories: Silver star sequins, 2 1/2" circle punch
Assembly: I think this is one of my favorites! I just love the simplicity of the negative space and the bold cursive script. I began with using a circle punch on striped cardstock, and then adding the tree die through die cut machine. The positive tree shape was used in the first card. The sentiment was added to cardstock and then cut with a circular die cut. Two additional circles were cut, to add dimension and glued together. Stars were added to embellish.
Card 5: Inspired from Sketch #1
Card Supplies:
Paper: Accent 120# white cardstock, Stampin Up specialty vellum, Recollections - patterned plaid paper, Recollections- Red foil cardstock
Ink: Stampin Up - Dapper Denim
Dies: Tree - Unity Ornamental Pines, Nesting Postage Stamp Dies
Assembly: I cut the vellum scraps to the sketch dimensions, and attached to the card base using an Elmer's glue stick in clear. I used 2- postage dies, added the tree to the center and glued together to give extra dimension. A tree cut from plaid paper was added to the center. A red foil star accents the top of the tree.
Lastly, Card 6: This is another favorite of mine.
Card Supplies:
Stamps: Concord and 9th
Dies: Ornamental Pines - Unity Star- Concord and 9th
Paper-Accent 120# white cardstock Designer series paper, Stampin Up, Recollections- Red foil- Recollections cardstock, Recollections- hollographic paper pack (gold tree star)
Acessories: Taylored Expressions - Snowfall Embossing Folder
Card Assembly: I actually took a scrap which measures approximately 4 x 4. It's slightly smaller because I grabbed what was in my left over basket.
I attached two left over red foil strips and attached them to the 4 x 4 square to frame it. Another scrap that was already dry embossed with snow flakes was added to the upper left corner and a die cut tree was added to the center. the large senitment fit nicely into the empty space to the right.
Whew! -- and that's a wrap! Thanks for stopping by!
These are fantastic! I was gifted this die set, but I don't have the stamps, so thanks so much for the inspiration!
