Partridge in a Pear Tree (Gem of a Craft Challenge: Week 23 Challenge)

Hello!

Just relaxing over the weekend.  I was looking through some of the blogs last night and came across a stunning card by Leslie Miller.  She blogs on Running With Scissors and made the most stunning Clean and Simple Christmas card using digital stamps from Power Poppy.  You can find her blog here (Running With Scissors). After I read the blog I went over to Power Poppy stamps to check out their digital creations.

I found a partridge in a pear tree and instantly recognized it.  You guys, I had bought this digital stamp awhile back and completely forgot about it!  😆 So, I fell down the rabbit hole of trying to find that image.

As luck would have it, I did retrieve the image on my phone.  After a slight tangle with the printer, I got an image printed out.  It seems my printer is very fussy and does not like anything over 80lbs.  I initially thought using colored pencils on a colored background would be pretty, but no such luck.

The image has a lot of white space, and although I wanted to watercolor, I was worried the paper would not be able to handle much water.  I do not own copic markers, so I decided to work in my comfort zone and color with pencils.

To fill the background, I used chalk pastels in blue and yellow.  Blue was applied around the edges and in the branches and yellow was applied to the pears.  Pencils work very well over the top and helps fill in white space.  I didn't want to detract from the partridge, so the leaves were colored with a green Tombow marker.  The ornaments hanging on the tree were filled in with dimensional accents.  A few highlights were added on the quail and teapot with a white Jellyroll pen.

This card will be entered into the Pink Gem Challenge Blog- (#23 Anything Goes).  If you'd like to play along too, please visit their blog site here: (Pinkgemchallengeblog)

Enjoy the rest of the week!
